Arrival day

Today is my birthday. There has been many challenges over the last year and I thought it would be good to write out for you how, with help, I overcame most of them.

You need to be okay with being vulnerable.

Try as we might to be tough as nails, we cannot be invincible. God did not create Adam and then end there, He created Eve to be his helper. God exists in perfect community with Himself as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. There in lies the first answer to why you need to be okay with being vulnerable, because without a community of people surrounding you and supporting you, it is much harder to heal any hurt. Your community can call things out that they see in you because of the trust that forms over time and the words come from a place of love instead of with the intention to tear one another down.

There will be people who enter your life that create an environment around them that is suffocating. The mere mention of time around that place or person makes your stomach turn. Give yourself a breather, take time to assess whether what you are doing or who you are seeing is bring harm or help into your life. Even as someone who is called to be the hands and feet of Christ, I have my limits. We don’t have to call being human an excuse, we all are and we all fall short of the glory of God. Hebrews 12:14 says, “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be Holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”. My interpretation of this passage is that we are to make every effort, but there is no promise that others will do the same. The hope is that the other person will come to see the holiness of the Lord. So what is my point? Make every effort to live in peace with everyone as much like Jesus as you can, for we are human and will never be perfect as Jesus is.

Celebrate the moments of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

This is pretty self explanatory, but I want to encourage you to rejoice with someone who is exhibiting the signs of the fruit of the spirit for the first time!! What a feeling to see someone who is transformed by the Holy Spirit to be use by God for His magnificent plan for us. I had a moment of love and joy in my life earlier this year, I got engaged to a woman who has softened my heart and wants nothing more than to love and be loved. She has taught me how to be more patient and how to enjoy moments in different ways. I love her so much and cannot wait to the day when I get to write about her as my wife. YAY!!!

These are some ways in which I have dealt with the craziness of my own life over the last year. Let me know how you have dealt with tough situations in your own life in the comments below. Also, check out my recent book review of Taking God at His Word
