With each new year, I look for another way to read the Bible in a year. Most versions of these reading plans start in Genesis and move on from there. Something struck me a little different this year though.
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”Genesis 1:26 NIV
When God created mankind, He created us in Their image. They built us to be like them. There is one problem though, when sin entered the world, our flesh took over and wanted to create things of our own. It is quite comical to think we created things, “on our own” when God was the one that gave us the ability to think and reason.
So how does one go about creating yourself? Well, the toolbox for that includes one book: The Bible. See, God quite literally gave us the manuscript on how to be like Him even after we went and messed things up in the Garden of Eden. God didn’t want to leave us high and dry to be eternally separated from Him. He originally created us to be in relationship with Him and that will never change!
Steps to create yourself
- Step 1 – Accept that Christ is your savior and the only hope you have that will never leave nor forsake you.
- Step 2 – Read through scripture with full context. Study Jewish culture prior to Christs arrival and be open to understanding what God is trying to teach you through it all.
- Step 3 – Refer to step 2 again.
- Step 4 – Talk to a trusted Christ following friend about what you have learned.
- Step 5 – Repeat steps 1-4 in someone else.
God gave us such an amazing gift, He made us! I don’t know about you, but I am happy to be able to spread the joy and good news of the Gospel. Think about it, when was the last time you created something that you were really proud of? Now think about the feeling you got when that project was complete and you got to reap the rewards of it being created. Now put that into the perspective of God creating us. Oh the overwhelming joy that must have brought to Him the day They created Adam.
